On your web site you say that it takes a leap of faith to purchase custom furniture over the internet from someone you have never met.
Well, the end product justifies that faith. I am very happy with my fly tying desk. I feel that over the course of corresponding with you,
I lost that feeling of "never having met." You are a pleasure to work with and you went the full distance to see that I was fully
Hi Bruce. We arrived home a little while ago and the desks
were waiting for us on the front porch. Just uncrated them - and
they are beautiful! The workmanship is great, and we love the
combination of nicely figured walnut and cherry. What great centerpieces
for our new study!
So now I am busy sorting through boxes full of fly tying materials and deciding what to store where.
Peg and I can't thank you enough. In addition to the incredible
desks (again - Wow!) you were a pleasure to work with throughout
the process. You kept us constantly informed of progress, and
due to your great packaging job the furniture arrived without
a scratch. Please feel free to use us as references when talking
to other potential customers. Thanks again for everything!

Bruce Shinn built a fly tying
desk and companion hackle chest for me. The desk and chest
are exceptionally well made, beautiful to look at and a real pleasure
to work over. Bruce is a true professional in every aspect of
his business including communications. I always knew where the
project stood (he even sent me pictures of the wood he had selected
for my desk). If I had a question, an email received a very timely
response. The desk/chest were shipped on schedule and arrived
in perfect condition thanks to the care with which Bruce crates
his furniture. I highly recommend Bruce. He does not disappoint.
We looked for so long to find a beautiful but functional desk that would be a showpiece, but would also hide all of the computer wires and hardware. When we first found Bruce's website, we called him and although we were hesitant to make such a big purchase over the internet, he won our trust and held our hands every step of the way. He took pictures of the desk in progress, wrote us, e-mailed us and called throughout the building process, putting all of our worries to rest. The end result is this magnificent desk that is the centerpiece of our office. It is a true work of art and we are very satisfied customers!

I wanted to take the time to express my thanks to Bruce Shinn of Shinn Custom Woodworks for the outstanding furniture he created for me. I had been searching for a desk for my study as well as for a fly tying desk. I visited numerous furniture showrooms, fly shops, and antique stores. I was never able to find what I wanted.
I discovered Shinn Custom Woodworks on the internet. The furniture that Bruce displayed caught my eye and I contacted Bruce to find more about his work. He and I spent time discussing what I was interested in including layout, look, and wood composition. Bruce provided me a working drawing and I approved the project. Along the way he was in constant communication to the status of the job as well as to fine tuning both desks.
When the desks arrived I was very impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship, the incredible packing and shipping, and the over-all attention to detail of the furniture. We all question on-line purchases, but I could not be more pleased with the finished product. I don't think you can find a better custom craftsman than Bruce Shinn of Shinn Custom Woodworks.
If you have any questions, please contact me or my wife. The bad news is I had to clean off my old fly desk and my old work desk. Eight years of junk down the drain!

When we moved into our new house back in 1997, we found an empty dining room in need of a table that could accommodate large family gatherings but also be suitable for smaller dinners. Having seen some of Bruces work and knowing the craftsmanship and quality that goes into each piece, we contacted him to see if he would design and build us a dining room table. We discussed our needs and desires with Bruce over the phone and left the rest in his capable hands. We wanted the table for our first Christmas in the house, and Bruce guaranteed delivery. But since we would not see the table before its delivery and since we needed chairs to match, we talked with Bruce periodically to understand exactly what the color of the table would be and the most appropriate style of chairs. He guided us through the choice of chairs and finish to match an unseen cherry table.
One week before Christmas, two large boxes were delivered containing our table with simple instructions on its assembly. In less than an hour, the table was assembled and placed in the new dining room with chairs that matched perfectly. The table is one-inch natural cherry rubbed with tung oil, with walnut inlays around the edge and with a unique set of curved modern mission style legs (our description, not Bruces!). It has two leaves, allowing us to use the table for an intimate dinner for four or a family gathering of twelve.
Since that first Christmas, we have had many visitors compliment us on our table and ask where we bought it. It is truly a one-of-kind ,expertly made table. After seven years of use, it still looks brand new. We expect that the table will stay in the family and be passed down someday to our five-year old daughter.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my fly desk, though, so far, it has served only as an office space for me. Your potential clients should know how you truly customize a piece, offering suggestions based upon woods that you have at hand. The construction and fitting is flawless. The spinnet design is really functional. My desk will be a family heirloom. I look forward to winding some feathers on it in the not too distant future.
